Thermofoil Doors

3D laminate (3DL) cabinet doors and drawer fronts — durable vinyl surfaces bonded to shaped MDF. See real door photos next to edge profiles, then dive into each family.

Selection of thermofoil cabinet doors and finishes

Browse by style family below—every listing shows a door photo first, then a compact edge diagram so you can see both the look and the technical profile.

What is thermofoil 3DL?

Thermofoil (often called 3D laminate or 3DL) is a decorative surface made from a thermoplastic film—typically PVC or PET—that is vacuum-formed over a precisely machined MDF (medium-density fiberboard) core. The membrane follows routed profiles, panels, and edges so the face and edges read as one continuous skin with tight, seamless corners—ideal for slab, Shaker, and many arch-top designs.

Properties & benefits

  • Consistent color and grain across large runs—well suited to kitchens, closets, and commercial casework where repeatability matters.
  • Easy-care surface—smooth finishes wipe clean; avoid abrasive pads and harsh solvents not recommended by the film supplier.
  • Design range—from flat contemporary slabs to detailed Shaker frames, square or softened corners, and glass-ready frames.
  • Stable core—MDF machines cleanly for crisp reveals; your designer matches thickness and construction to hinge and slide requirements.

How 3DL doors are typically made

  1. Panel prep — MDF is cut and CNC-routed to the door style (rails, stiles, panels, arch details).
  2. Membrane selection — A roll of thermofoil in the chosen color and texture is sized for the press.
  3. Membrane pressing — Heat softens the film; vacuum draws it tight to the MDF so it bonds into corners without glue lines at the face.
  4. Trim & finish work — Perimeter is trimmed; hardware boring and quality checks follow before delivery or installation.

Processes vary by supplier equipment. Final specifications for your job appear on your Designer Closets proposal.

Edge profile diagrams

Each style uses an edge profile code (EP00, EP01, …). The little diagrams below are the same codes you will see—small and technical—under the larger door photos on each style page.
